The degree in Economics provides a good foundation in the subject and associated disciplines such as economic and social history, quantitative methods with computing and accountancy. Students are able to choose from over 30 subjects in their second and third years. Arising from collaboration with the Universities of Caen, Dijon and Murcia, the Department also offers double-award programmes featuring European or international economic studies. Students successfully completing these programmes obtain not only an honours degree, but also the prestigious foreign awards of Maitrise or Licenciatura. Enquiries about these developments may be made to the Department.
Additionally, the Department is responsible for the economics teaching on the Humanities/Social Studies, Combined Studies, Public Administration, Social Science and Accounting and Finance degrees, and for the social and economic history teaching on the Humanities/Social Studies degree.
A variety of research work is undertaken and a staff seminar with speakers from both within and outside the University is held regularly in the Autumn and Spring terms.
